Long Overdue Theatre Company presents
Romeo & Juliet
It is 11 years since an earthquake devastated Verona and
the city has collapsed into a state of chaos. Two families,
once pillars of society are now engaged in running street
battles. The police are forced to take a hard line to restore
the quiet of their streets: zero tolerance, no second chances,
transgress and die.
In this harsh environment a young love
burns too brightly to last. Long Overdue Theatre Company’s
high-tech, high-energy, modern interpretation of Romeo & Juliet
sensitively explores the passion and violence of Shakespeare’s
greatest tragedy.
This cinematic re-imagining is driven by
a dynamic underscore that mixes together traditional and
contemporary instruments to create an atmosphere full of
tension and joy, anarchy and tranquillity. With the help
of a young, passionate cast and the recorded image of Kenneth
Colley (Star Wars, Life of Brian, Brassed Off) as Friar
Laurence, Long Overdue blow the cobwebs away from this classic
text,
revealing truths about love and loss which have spoken
to generations of theatre goers.
