Arthur Conan Doyle’s celebrated fictional detective is given a fresh dusting off in Guy Ritchie’s (Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) dynamic crime thriller. Set in 1891, Holmes (here played by acclaimed actor Robert Downey Jr) is accompanied by his trusted colleague, war veteran and doctor Watson (Jude Law) to thwart the diabolical plans of the murderous cult leader Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong), who has seemingly returned from the dead to defeat Holmes and bring down the country.
